Anirudh, who is making his debut as a music director with ’3′, couldn’t have asked for a better launch pad. His first composed song ‘Kolaveri Di’ has not only made him an overnight celebrity but has also earned him his very first award.
The song is so popular on YouTube that they have decided to award the song ‘YouTube Gold Award’, which is given to viral songs across the globe.
“It is true. The record label has received official intimation. I don’t know if they will have a function to present the award but yes, ‘Kolaveri’ has been chosen for the award,” said Anirudh to IBN.
Not only that, ‘Kolaveri Di’ has also managed to make it into the new edition of Time Magazine.
“I’m not sure about this fact but someone I know told me that it is after 20 years after it featured a story on ‘Roja’ that the magazine is running such a story again,” he said.
The movie ‘Roja’ inevitably reminds us of the maestro AR Rahman. And when asked if he plans on competing with him, Anirudh said, “Oh no, Rahman sir is my inspiration. I will happily retire if I manage to accomplish even five percent of what Rahman sir has achieved. I’m just one song old and have a long way to go.”
